Historical and Institutional Context

The Postgraduate Studies Programme (MSc) “Computer Engineering” of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (ELMEPA) was established in order to provide high level theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of computer science and related technologies. The programme started operating from the academic year 2018-2019, replacing the previous MSc “Informatics and Multimedia”, which was established in 2012 by Ministerial Decision No. 42038/E5 (Government Gazette 1282/B’/11.04.2012) and amended in 2013.

The recognition and development of the programme was the result of the Department’s continuous effort to keep up with the requirements of the scientific and technological community, as well as the needs of the labour market. According to the decision 1486/F20 of the Senate of ELMEPA, the MSc “Computer Engineering” is officially operating and recognized by the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs, published in the Government Gazette 3281/t.B’/27.08.2019 and corrected in the Government Gazette 3978/t.B’/01.11.2019.

The structure of the programme and its specialisations have gradually evolved, with a view to enhancing the quality of studies and the continuous updating of the courses in accordance with the latest developments in the field of information technology and information and communication technologies.

The approval of the guidelines and the structure of the programme took place through the decisions of the Assembly of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (decision 12/Θ.1/12.12.2019) and the Senate of ELMEPA (decision 25/Θ.15/02.04.2020, Government Gazette 615/t.B’/17.02.2021).

For detailed information on the institutional framework, please refer to the relevant publication in the Government Gazette.

Also, the programme is subject to evaluation procedures in accordance with the provisions of Law 4957/2022, thus ensuring its high quality and continuous upgrading.

Since its inception, the programme has continuously developed and enriched the potential of its students. As part of this continuous development, the MSc supports the development of skills in areas such as software development, intelligent systems and network technology, while at the same time enhancing research and innovation in computing.

Its academic and research pathway is embedded in a broader international environment, aiming to provide excellent training for its students and to promote scientific and technological progress in computing.
