Dr. Kostas Vassilakis
is currently professor of Informatics at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU). He received his B.Sc. in Mathematics from University of Athens, his M.Sc. in Computer Science from Mc Gill University, and his Ph.D. degree from University of Crete. Title of Ph.D. dissertation: Development of a decision support system for the diagnosis of epilepsies and epileptic syndromes in childhood.
At the present time he teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses at HMU. His research interests are in the areas of web-based applications/services, eLearning, and decision support systems, and he supervises postgraduate students’ thesis on similar topics. He has participated in various European and National funded projects (research, developmental and educational) and he is author/co-author of more than 50 refereed articles published in peer-reviewed international journals, proceedings of conferences and books. He is currently member of scientific committees in several international journals and conferences.
Apart from his academic activities, he is head (chairman) of Department of Social Work, member of Quality Assurance Unit (2014- present), academic responsible of Network Operation Centre (NOC) and representative of HMU at the non-profit civil company “Greek Universities Network” (GUnet). In the past, he served as director (dean) of the School of Engineering (2010-14), head of Department of Sciences (2008-10), head of Computer Science Division of Department of Sciences, Erasmus responsible for the department of Electrical Engineering and member of the Administrative Council of GUnet for 7 years (2007-13)
