Short CV
Dr Dimitrios Stratakis was born in Heraklion of Crete, Greece, in 1965. He received his B.S. in Physics in 1987 from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and in 1992 he received his diploma degree in Electrical Engineering and his M.Sc. in Electronic Physics and Radioelectrology from the same University. In March 2011 he received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with the subject ‘Measurement and estimation of uncertainty of electromagnetic field in modern broadband wireless communication systems. Today he is an Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Hellenic Mediterranean University, Heraklion, Crete, with the subject of “Telecommunications with emphasis on Electromagnetic field measurements”.
Stratakis Dimitrios is the scientific coordinator of Non-Ionizing Radiation Laboratory (NIRL), which belongs to the institutionalized “Multimedia, Networks and Communications” laboratory of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Hellenic Mediterranean University, Crete, Greece. The main research object of the laboratory is the development of measurement methodologies for electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields from the very low frequencies area (measurements in electricity transmission and distribution systems, measurements near electric industrial and household installations of electrical machines and appliances etc.), up to the radio frequency range (measurements in the communications antenna environment, radio and TV antennas, base station antennas, wireless telecommunication networks antennas and microwave link antennas, measurements in the Radar environment etc.).
At the undergraduate level, Stratakis Dimitrios has written notes on the theoretical and laboratory part of the courses “Introduction to Telecommunications”, “Digital Communications”, “Transmission Structures” and “Mobile and Personal Communications Networks” which he also teaches, and had supervised more than thirty (30) diploma theses of undergraduate students. At the postgraduate level, he teaches the “Advanced Topics in Antennas and Wireless Propagation and Measurements” course at the MSc in “Informatics & Multimedia” of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Hellenic Mediterranean University, Crete, Greece, and has supervised the successful completion of three (3) MSc dissertations.
Stratakis Dimitrios research interests include electromagnetic measurement methodologies from extremely low frequencies to radio frequency spectrum in the range of non-ionizing radiation, electromagnetic wave propagation, modern wireless broadband communications networks, and electromagnetic compatibility. His research activities to date include five (5) book chapters, nine (9) original scientific papers in reputable scientific journals, and more than thirty-three (33) papers at international scientific conferences with judges.
He has participated in ten (10) national research and development projects in two of which he was the scientific director, and in two (2) European Competitive Programs. He is a reviewer in three (3) scientific journals, has participated in the organization of seven (7) international scientific conferences and has participated in a number of events (exhibitions, workshops, speeches, interviews) on issues related to his research activities. The published scientific work of Stratakis Dimitrios has gained international recognition and has been the basis for further research by other Greek and foreign researchers counting to date more than 215 citations
