Emmanouil Marakakis has studied Mathematics at the University of Ioannina (1979), Master in Computer Science at Concordia University, Canada (1984) and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Bristol, England (1997).
E.Marakakis is Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) and director of the research laboratory “Artificial Intelligence and Systems Engineering” of HMU. Initially he worked at the Institute of Computer Science of the Foundation for Research and Technology (FORTH) – Hellas in European research programs from August 1986 up to January 1992. Then, he worked as academic staff at the Technological Educational Institute of Crete from April 1989 up to April 2019 and from May 2019 until today he works as Professor of Informatics at the Hellenic Mediterranean University.
His main research interests are in Artificial Intelligence in the areas of “logic programming, knowledge systems, automated software engineering, natural language processing, semantic web and statistical relational learning”. He has authored numerous publications in international journals, international conferences, book chapters as well as a book which is used as an academic textbook by Greek Universities.
