Dr. Constantine J. Aivalis is an Assistant Professor at the Hellenic Mediterranean University. He teaches for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering the courses: Web Application Evaluation Systems, Data and Information Visualization and Object-Oriented Programming (Java), and for the Department of Mechanical Engineering Programming with Python.
He began his studies at the Technical University of Graz, Austria, at the School of Technical Mathematics, transferred to the Technical University of Berlin, to the School of Informatics where he received his basic degree: “Diplom Informatiker”, Computer Engineer in 1983. He received an MSc from the Open University of Greece in Graphical Arts and Multimedia, in 2011 in Web to Print systems. He received a PhD from the University of Peloponnese, Department of Informatics and Telecommunications in the field of Web Analytics.
Has taught at the Technological Education Institute of Crete since October 1995 Object Oriented Programming (Java and Python), Data and Information Visualization, Web Application Evaluation Systems, Digital Image Processing, C Language, Data Structures as well as many postgraduate laboratory courses and undergraduate courses. Has supervised three postgraduate and numerous undergraduate theses.
In 1973 he obtained a state degree in computer programming from the Ministry of Education, based on which he worked as a programmer in Germany, from 1974 to 1982, during his studies. He served in the Navy Headquarters as a programmer from 1983 to 1984. Worked at the Foundation of Research and Technology Hellas, Institute of Computer Science as a systems analyst and programmer from 1984 to 1994. Worked for Software Art as a designer and developer from 1985 to 2000, where he designed and implemented Front Office Management Systems for Hotels, a Ticket Management and Transportation Planning applications for cruise operators, Medical Record Application for Primary Health Centers for the Social Medicine Sector of the University of Crete, as well as many special applications. He participated as an Associate Partner in the Cooperative Resource Management Logistics Program of the Telematics Application Program Direction 13 and was a collaborator for the Chambers of Industry in the Telematics in Transport program with the Hellenic Industries Association of ELANET.
He has taught Programming, Informatics courses and weekend seminars for the bachelor’s programme at the University of Maryland European Division from 1985 to 1993, and taught many seminars for the Hellenic Productivity Center, the Mathematical Society, and other institutions.
His research interests are in Web Analytics, Big Data, E-Commerce, Middleware and Programming Languages.
He has published relevant chapters in collective volumes, articles in journals and conferences
